A Notice of Intent to increase sales tax was posted to allow Council the opportunity to have this discussion with the public. The rates posted are the maximum levels for discussion/consideration. If new rates are adopted, the new rates would take effect on August 1, 2021.
The proposed changes could include increasing the tax rates for Retail (not to include Food for Home Consumption), which is currently set at 2.2%. The proposal is an increase of no more than an additional 0.8%. The total tax including the increase would not exceed 3%. Revenue from this tax is used for On-Going Expenses.
Retail Tax Revenue Funds (On-Going Expenses)
Potential Revenue Impact of $900,570
Current Tax Impact vs. Proposed Tax Impact on Retail Purchases
*Maximum Impact on a single purchase
The proposed changes could include increasing the tax rates for construction, which is currently set at 3.5%. The proposal is an increase of no more than an additional 2.5%. The total tax including the increase would not exceed 6%. Revenue from this tax is used for both On-Going Expenses (30%) & One-Time Needs (70%).
Construction Tax Revenue Funds (30% On-Going Expenses / 70% One-Time Needs)
Potential Revenue Impact of $1,606,678
*In the event these tax increases are not adopted there will be a greater shortfall in both our on-going and one-time funds, which will impact what we can accomplish for our community.
The Town has a fiscally balanced budget to ensure that operational on-going items use on-going revenues. Being fiscally responsible with on-going revenues gives financial security to our residents by having stable and reliable services. These services come indifferent forms from public safety (police and fire) to reliable utility services to safe parks that enrich our quality of life.

- New North Fire Station – to provide better service to all residents
- Pavement Preservation
- Pavement Replacement
- Right-of-Way Maintenance
- Parks/Pool/Facilities maintenance and enhancements

- Public Safety Technology (upgrades, computers, towers…)
- Park Enhancements ( ex. pickleball courts, basketball court, tennis court, playground equipment, walking trails)
